Minnesota wins top match against LA Clippers, Wembanyama excels with ‘triple double’

Karl-Anthony Towns set the pace for Minnesota with 24 points and Anthony Edwards also contributed to the victory with 23 points. For the Clippers, the eighteen points from both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard were not enough. James Harden scored seventeen points.

At San Antonio, Victor Wembanyama caught the spotlight. The 20-year-old French top talent achieved a rare ‘triple double’ (27 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks) in the victory over the Spurs in Toronto (99-122).

Impressive statistics

It was the first triple-double with blocks since Clint Capela (13 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks). He did this for Atlanta against Minnesota in 2021. This was also the last time anyone in the NBA blocked 10 shots in a game. Hakeem Olajuwon has the most triple-doubles with blocks since the statistic was officially recorded in the NBA. He did it eleven times, one more than Dikembe Mutombo and two more than Spurs Hall of Famer David Robinson.

Furthermore, after a series of nine wins in a row, Cleveland knows what losing means again. The Cavaliers lost to Philadelphia (121-123), which could count on Kelly Oubre Jr. and Buddy Hield (24 points each).
