Bo Henriksen succeeds Jan Siewert as Mainz’s new coach

The Dane Bo Henriksen will start as the new coach of FSV Mainz 05. The Bundesliga club announced this today on social media. The 49-year-old Henriksen succeeds Jan Siewert, with whom Mainz ended the collaboration yesterday.

Mainz plucks Henriksen from Swiss FC Zürich, where he has been at the helm since October 2022. Previously, the Dane was coach of Midtjylland in his home country. He has signed a contract with Mainz until 2026.

Relegation beckons

Mainz suffered a 3-1 defeat at Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Sunday afternoon. That was already the eleventh defeat in total, the last victory dating from November 4 against Leipzig. In the eleven subsequent league matches, Mainz was unable to win once. With barely twelve points on the counter, the club has dropped to the penultimate place. With the first safe place in the standings, there is now a gap of nine points.

The 41-year-old Siewert had only been head coach at Mainz since the beginning of November. He then succeeded the dismissed Bo Svensson. Initially as interim trainer, but later as permanent T1.
