Africa Cup provides Ivorian players with a premium of 76,000 euros and an equivalent villa

The Ivorian players who won the Africa Cup of Nations for the third time in their own country on Sunday were honored on Tuesday at the presidential palace in Abidjan.

Each player received a bonus from President Alassane Ouattara worth 50 million Ivorian francs, equivalent to 76,000 euros, and an equivalent villa. For national coach Emerse Faé, who took over from Jean-Louis Gasset after the group stage, there was a premium of 100 million CFA francs (152,000 euros). Players and staff were also decorated in the national order, the highest honor in Ivory Coast.

In the final of the Africa Cup, the host country defeated Nigeria 2-1 on Sunday evening. This was celebrated with a real folk festival (see images). Ivory Coast previously won the Africa Cup in 1992 and 2015, and was in the final for the fifth time. The Super Eagles remain at three victories, after previous triumphs in 1980, 1994 and 2013. Nigeria has already played its eighth final.

The bronze went to Hugo Broos’ South Africa on Saturday evening, after winning on penalties in the small final against Congo. For Broos it was the second medal ever at the Africa Cup, after the final victory with Cameroon in 2017.
