Greet Minnen fails in the second round of WTA Doha


Greet Minnen (WTA 85) was eliminated on Monday in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in the Qatari capital Doha (hard/3,211,715 dollars).


Minnen lost in three sets 6-2, 0-6 and 6-4 to the Czech sixth seed Marketa Vondrousova (WTA 8). In the third set our compatriot led 2-4. But Vondrousova broke through Minnen’s serve twice more, who had qualified for the main draw through the qualifications.

Earlier in the day, Elise Mertens (WTA 25) qualified for the second round by beating the American Peyton Stearns (WTA 65) 6-2 and 6-3. In the next round, sixteenth-seeded American Emma Navarro (WTA 23) awaits.
