The defeat was too much: RWDM and trainer Cláudio Caçapa parted ways

Cláudio Caçapa (47) is no longer the head coach of RWD Molenbeek. The Brazilian has been at the helm of the Brussels club since the start of this season, but is now being thanked for his services. The 0-4 defeat against Antwerp turned out to be the figurative straw.

Assistant Anderson Valinas is also fired. Igor De Camargo takes over from Caçapa for the time being.

RWDM could not win once in the past eight matches. In the competition it barely scored 1 out of 21, which means RWDM is currently 14th in the Jupiler Pro League. In the cup, the people of Brussels were ingloriously eliminated in the quarter-finals by KV Oostende.

“We would like to thank Claudio and Anderson, who in recent weeks tried to find solutions to improve our results. We now have five games left to try to avoid the play-downs and we have decided that a change is needed now to bring a new vision and energy. Igor will act as interim coach until a new T1 is appointed. He knows our league and our club well and has been working with our player group since the start of the season,” said CEO Gauthier Ganaye in the club statement.
