Emma Meesseman enjoyed the Olympic qualifying tournament in the Antwerp Sports Palace. “I will cherish these memories forever,” the power forward said on Sunday after the 78-61 win against Nigeria on the final match day.

The Cats attracted more than 32,000 spectators to the Sportpaleis on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. “For the first time I will remember something that is more than basketball,” said the Cats captain. “So many people have come to the Sportpaleis especially for us. I will be forever grateful that we were given this opportunity.”

The pressure was on against Nigeria, as both teams already had their Olympic tickets in their pockets. Still, the Cats still wanted to put their best foot forward, although that was not easy. “We knew there would be a lot of people today,” Meesseman said.

“Nigeria is a very physical team. We may have been a little sleep deprived. We wanted to do well, but that wasn’t always possible. There are always days when things don’t go as well, but we have always responded and played nice basketball at times. Nigeria is a team that will also participate in the Games. I am proud of everyone on our team. All Cats are taking many steps forward at their own club. Now we have to continue working on the details towards the Games.”
