Brussels got off to the best start in Hasselt and ended the first quarter with a 22-23 bonus. Limburg United was not impressed and, without the injured Brussels duo Maxime De Zeeuw and Quentin Serron, made it clear why it will play the cup final on March 10 and is in third place in the competition. Toon Ceyssens and Anthony Lambot, among others, inspired the 12-2 intermediate sprint: 32-25. “Kudos to my benchers,” said Limburg United coach Raymond Westphalen. Brussels continued to hold on and so we got a 36-36 score halfway through.

“Unfortunately, we came out of the dressing room poorly and missed the start of the third quarter,” says Brussels coach Serge Crevecoeur. “Limburg United distanced itself and we had no response. After three quarters we were 61-49 behind and realized that we were faced with a tough task. We tried with a zone defense, but our recovery was short-lived. We made some crucial mistakes, so Limburg United achieved a deserved victory.”

Aiming for Belgian play-offs

Due to the defeat in Limburg United, Brussels was immediately eliminated from the Elite Gold. Next week the players from the capital will conclude the regular competition in Bergen. The Elite Silver will start on March 1. In addition to Bergen, Leuven Bears, Kortrijk Spurs, Okapi Aalst and Kangaroos Mechelen, matches against Dutch teams such as Feyenoord Rotterdam, Yoast United Nijmegen, Leeuwarden Basket and Den Helder Suns await. Crevecoeur: “We want to win as many matches as possible to finish in the top eight. The top eight are qualified for the Belgian play-offs. After a successful season so far, that final round is now our ambition.”
