Another record: NBA legend LeBron James selected for the All-Star Game for the twentieth (!) time

Since 2005 he has not missed a single time. Last year he had already equaled legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 19 participations.

James (LA Lakers) and his team from the Western Conference will take on the Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee) and his friends from the East. James is joined in the starting five by the American Kevin Durant (Phoenix), the Serbian Nikola Jokic (Denver), the Slovenian Luka Doncic (Dallas) and the Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City).

Antetokounmpo will be joined by his American teammate at Milwaukee, Damien Lillard. The Cameroonian Joel Embiid (Philadelphia), the 2023 MVP, and the Americans Jayson Tatum (Boston) and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana) are also there.

The most notable absentees include Stephen Curry (Golden State), Jaylen Brown (Boston) and Trae Young (Atlanta). The stars of the LA Clippers (Paul George, James Harden and Kawhi Leonard) and the top players of Minnesota (Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards), co-leaders in the West, are also missing.

As expected, French rookie Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio) is also not there. He was brought in with great fanfare, but his team is last in the Western Conference.

For the All-Star Game, 50 percent of the votes come from the public. These are supplemented with votes from the players (25 percent) and specialized media (25 percent).

The coaches of the 30 NBA teams determine the bench seats. The full roster for the All-Star Game will be revealed on February 2.

Lakers beat Chicago

The LA Lakers and star player LeBron James made no mistake against Chicago (141-132) on Thursday. Stephen Curry and Golden State had a disappointing evening against Sacramento (133-134).

James celebrated his twentieth All-Star Game selection with a double-double (25 points and 12 assists). D’Angelo Russell (29 pts) also contributed to the victory with eight accurate three-pointers. The Lakers’ score in the standings is once again in balance with their 23rd win in 46 games. They are ninth in the Western Conference, while Chicago is in the same position in the East.

Things went wrong for Golden State and Stephen Curry in San Francisco. The Warriors bit the dust against Sacramento. After Curry lost the ball, Domantas Sabonis decided the game 22 seconds from the end. Harrison Barnes was the absolute standout for the Kings with 39 points, a personal record. Curry was his team’s top scorer with 33 points. The Warriors are only 12th in the West.

Indiana, meanwhile, stopped Philadelphia’s six-game winning streak (134-122). Pascal Siakam achieved a triple-double (26 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists) for the Pacers, who will be without Tyrese Haliburton for longer. Philadelphia remains third in the East, but loses ground on leader Boston.

The Celtics won easily on Thursday, 110-143, in Miami. The visitors hit 22 three-pointers. Jayson Tatum (26 pts) became the top scorer.

Minnesota, the leader in the West, fought to a 94-96 victory in Brooklyn. Rudy Gobert finished the job in the final minute.

Number three Denver was defeated by New York (122-84). The champion felt the defeat coming and left it at the end. Nikola Jokic and the other basic players were already resting on the bench.
