On the fourteenth matchday in the Premier League, Everton achieved a satisfying victory on Saturday evening. The Toffees won economically 0-1 at Nottingham Forest. Leandro Trossard’s Arsenal – who again played ninety minutes in midfield – won 2-1 against Wolves.

It was certainly not a Belgian get-together at Nottingham Forest – Everton. Amadou Onana was still out of action with a calf injury, but Orel Mangala was in the starting line-up for the home team. Both teams kept most of their spice for last in the first half. The Toffees came closest to scoring, but Murillo was able to just deflect Dwight McNeil’s effort off the line. On the other side, Morgan Gibbs-White shot wildly wide. After the interruption, Everton did score. Jack Harrison sent a cross towards the far post, where McNeil made it 0-1 with a dry shot in the intersection. Divock Origi was allowed to come on for more than ten minutes, but he too could not turn the tide.

Everton, which saw ten points deducted for violating the financial fair play rules but appealed, passes the red lantern to Sheffield, which lost 5-0 to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley earlier on Saturday. Forest remains fifteenth.

Trossard and Arsenal book a narrow victory

Arsenal is now consolidated at the top of the Premier League with a victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. At home, coach Mikel Arteta’s team won 2-1. After just six minutes it was Bukayo Saka who scored the opening goal. After a quick attack from the right, the 22-year-old attacker came face to face with the keeper, after which he shot home hard. Soon afterwards, captain Martin Ødegaard signed for the 2-0 after a beautiful attack over several stations.

After that, Wolverhampton managed to keep it a lot better at the back. Arsenal remained stronger, but were no longer able to score. Wolves managed to do that. Five minutes before the end, Oleksandr Zinchenko defended poorly, allowing Wolverhampton striker Matheus Cunha to shoot home the 2-1. Shortly afterwards, Arsenal hit the post, leaving the final score at 2-1 after a few tense final minutes.

For the Gunners, Red Devil Leandro Trossard again played the entire game in central midfield. Arsenal now has a 4-point lead, but direct competitors Manchester City and Liverpool will still be in action on Sunday.
