Former professional footballer Tarik O., who once played for Ajax and Sevilla, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison in Spain for sexually abusing his own daughter. This is evident from a recent judgment by the court in Marbella, Spain.
According to the judges in Spain, Tarik O. got into bed with his daughter in 2011 and groped her in intimate places and assaulted her. O. has also been given a contact ban and is no longer allowed to come into the immediate vicinity of his daughter.
After serving his sentence, he will remain under the supervision of the Spanish authorities for another four years and two months. After that, the former Ajax player – once the apple of Johan Cruijff’s eye – is no longer allowed to visit Spain for ten years. Tarik O. has come into contact with the Spanish justice system before. For example, he was held in Madrid for a month on suspicion of fraud.
Champions League winner
The punishment for abusing his own daughter is irrevocable and therefore no longer subject to appeal. Tarik O., born in Amsterdam, played 24 times for Ajax and left for Seville in 1995 as a Champions League winner. The left midfielder played once in the Champions League billion-dollar match and immediately scored twice against AEK Athens.
O. was under contract with Sevilla for three years, but only played fifteen times in total. In his modest number of appearances, the former Ajax player scored three goals and five yellow cards.
O. left through the back door to Nagoya Grampus, where he became a success. He played 111 games for the Japanese and ended his career at ADO Den Haag in 2004. Tarik O. did not respond to requests for comment.
