Sweden defeated Estonia 2-0 on Sunday evening in Solna on the last matchday in qualifying group F. After the match, the Scandinavian country’s football association thanked 61-year-old Andersson on social media. He took over in 2016 after the European Championship and then guided Sweden to the quarter-finals at the World Cup in Russia and the eighth finals at EURO 2020. The Swedes were not present at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of last year.
Sweden finished third in group F with ten points, well behind group winner Belgium (20 points) and runner-up Austria (19 points). The Scandinavians thus missed out on the top two and the corresponding European Championship ticket.
