Belgium remains 13th in the world rankings after Billie Jean King Cup, Canada is the new number 1

After their first ever final victory in the Billie Jean King Cup last Sunday in Seville, the Canadian women now top the world rankings of the national tennis teams. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced the new ranking on Tuesday. Belgium remains thirteenth.

Canada eliminated Belgium in Vancouver in April (3-2) and last weekend was crowned winner of the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time in its history after a 2-0 victory against Italy in the final.

With their victory, the Canadian women rose six places in the world rankings and thus dethroned Switzerland, which is now in third place. Australia remains second. Italy rose from eighth to fifth place behind number four Czech Republic, which rose one place.

Belgium managed to retain its place in the World Group in the Dôme in Charleroi on Sunday by beating Hungary in their jump-off match. Captain Wim Fissette and his players will have another chance to qualify for the final round next year. The draw will take place in the coming days.
