Alison Van Uytvanck has to pass due to back problems for the international match against Hungary on November 11 and 12 in the Billie Jean King Cup. She announced this on social media on Tuesday. Marie Benoit (WTA 228) replaces her in the Belgian selection.

The 29-year-old Van Uytvanck forfeited an ITF tournament in Glasgow two weeks ago due to a new back injury. According to her coach Ann Devries, there was hope that the Brabant player would be fit for the international match against Hungary, but that turned out to be in vain.

“I unfortunately have to announce that my back is not fully fit to play for my country,” Van Uytvanck wrote on social media. “I’m doing everything I can to get fully ready to play again. I wish the Belgian team the best of luck.”

Van Uytvanck made a comeback this autumn after a long absence due to a double hernia. She will therefore not be able to play in the Billie Jean King Cup on November 11 and 12, when Belgium takes on Hungary in Charleroi in the play-offs of the world group. Captain Wim Fissette included her in the selection earlier this month, alongside Greet Minnen and Yanina Wickmayer, among others. Elise Mertens is not participating.

The Belgian tennis association subsequently reported that Marie Benoit will replace the unfortunate Van Uytvanck in Wim Fissette’s group. Sofia Kostoulas and Kimberley Zimmermann complete the roster.
