Veronika Kudermetova (WTA 19) won the WTA 500 tournament in the Japanese capital Tokyo on Sunday. The Russian, the eighth seed, put aside the American second seed Jessica Pegula (WTA 4) in the final. After an hour and 25 minutes the final score was 7-5, 6-1.

For the 26-year-old Kudermetova, it is her second tournament victory, after the title she won in 2021 in Charleston, America. This season she already lost a final at the grass tournament in Rosmalen.

The 29-year-old Pegula is stuck with three titles. This summer she won the WTA 1,000 in Montreal. She was previously the best in Guadalajara (2022) and Washington (2019).
