AS Roma suffers a heavy loss, Romelu Lukaku’s goal is disallowed

Romelu Lukaku and AS Roma’s away match at Genoa on Thursday evening turned out to be a disaster. The Romans lost no less than 4-1 to the PhD candidate in Serie A.

The Roman defense was not awake at first, as Albert Gudmundsson (5.) was able to open the score for Genoa early on. The 26-year-old Icelander outwitted Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio with a crossed shot. The Romans’ response followed not much later when Bryan Cristante (22.) appeared at the far post on a cross and headed in over the corner. Yet before half time, Mateo Retegui (45.) turned the situation in favor of ‘Il Grifone’. After the break, Morten Thorsby (74.) and Junior Messias (81.) closed the books for José Mourinho and his followers. Despite a goal from an offside position, Lukaku featured little in the play, Koni De Winter (46.) came on after the break.

Inter and AC Milan top the rankings in Serie A with 15 out of 18. AS Roma has missed its start and is sixteenth with 5 out of 18, Genoa is eleventh with two points more.
