Barcelona coach Xavi announced on Friday at his press conference, the day before the home match in the competition against Celta de Vigo, that he has extended his contract with the club.
“My new contract was signed a few days ago,” Xavi said briefly. “We have reached an agreement for a few additional years and more will be announced soon. I’m happy with it.” According to Spanish media, he has signed an agreement until mid-2025. The deal had been in the air for several weeks.
On Tuesday, Barcelona made firewood of Antwerp in its first group match in the Champions League. The score was 5-0 in the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium in the Great Old’s debut match at the champions’ ball.
43-year-old Xavi Hernandez has been head coach of the Catalans since November 2021. He succeeded the Dutchman Ronald Koeman at the time. Xavi won his first national title last season with Barcelona as coach. He also won the Spanish Super Cup.
As a player, he played for the Blaugrana’s first team between 1998 and 2015. He played no fewer than 767 official matches for the club during that period, and won eight league titles, three cups, four Champions League trophies and two world club titles.
