Ronny Deila saw how Club Brugge forgot to put Besiktas through the meat grinder: “It was actually great, only goals were missing”

Proud and disappointed at the same time: Ronny Deila saw how his team forgot to put Besiktas through the meat grinder. The result is the lid on the nose. The Norwegian coach mainly wanted to remember how good Club was on Thursday. “This was a top performance, from start to finish. Only the goals were missing.”

Disappointment: Ronny Deila initially could not hide his disappointment. Especially because he thought his team was absolutely excellent. “This was actually a top performance, from the beginning to the end,” said the Norwegian. “Besiktas had the ball for maybe ten minutes. Furthermore, it was Club that did the talking. It is actually not normal that we did not win this match with all the chances we created.”

There was certainly no funerary mood in the dressing room, says Deila. “Everyone saw our match, the players also know that it was very good,” the coach shrugged. “But it was one of those days. We just had to score more. Bad luck, that’s what it’s called. It was one of those days when you don’t get what you’re entitled to. If we perform like this every match, those results will come automatically.”

It was Nielsen who was responsible for the goal. But Deila did not want to point the finger at his Danish midfielder. “Oh well, things like that happen in football. He was in distress after the match: you could see it in his face,” said the coach. “The whistle had to be blown for an elbow on Hans Vanaken. And on the other hand, we could have easily resolved the situation earlier. Oh well, with all those chances we really shouldn’t talk about that goal. Under normal circumstances this was not necessary.”

A draw was not a disaster in the end: all teams in group D now have one point, because Lugano and Bodø/Glimt also kept it at a draw. “Once again: I am satisfied with our game. It was good defensively and offensively, there was a lot of energy and we had a truckload of opportunities. What more can I ask for?”
