Ex-Golden Shoe and STVV icon Lon Polleunis died at the age of 80

Former Red Devil Lon Polleunis has passed away. The ex-Golden Shoe and STVV icon died late on Wednesday evening in Sint-Truiden. Polleunis had been critical for several days after suffering heart failure.

Lon Polleunis entered the hospital in Sint-Truiden at the beginning of September for knee surgery. But that’s where things went wrong for the 80-year-old club icon of the Canaries. Lon was transferred to Hasselt with heart problems. There it turned out that things were going in a better direction again. Last Tuesday Polleunis moved back to Sint-Truiden. However, his condition deteriorated again. Late Wednesday evening, at 11:59 p.m., the man died.
