A Newcastle United supporter was stabbed in Milan, northern Italy, on Monday night, ahead of Tuesday evening’s Champions League match at San Siro between AC Milan and Newcastle United, local police confirmed on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old man and a friend were approached by some masked people. The victim suffered arm and back injuries during the skirmish. He was taken to a hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening. Local authorities have since launched an investigation.
Earlier on Tuesday, a Newcastle spokesperson said he was “very concerned” about the incident. “We are in contact with the police to clarify the circumstances. We hope for a quick recovery of our supporter.”
