José Mourinho responds to Inter fans’ anger over Lukaku transfer: “They must be happy that I, their ex-coach, have Romelu. I needed him”

Romelu Lukaku (30) has opened his account for AS Roma. José Mourinho’s troops won with a monster score against Empoli (7-0) and took their first three-pointer of the season. Lukaku scored the sixth goal of the evening and his Portuguese coach, who does not understand the anger of the Inter fans, was more than satisfied with that.

On the blue-black side of Milan they felt betrayed Big Rom this summer. Our compatriot openly flirted with major rivals Juventus and AC Milan, but eventually ended up on loan in the Italian capital. Yet AS Roma coach Mourinho believes that Inter’s supporters have no reason to hold a grudge against their ex-striker.

“They must be happy that I, their ex-coach, have Romelu available. I need him,” Mourinho told DAZN after the match on Sunday. “He is happy here. Romelu needs to feel loved and wanted and understood that the team needed a player like him.”

The perfect evening for Roma, Mourinho and Lukaku

“Maybe it was important for him that he scored today, but for me that was not the main thing,” the controversial coach continued. “He has shown from the start that he wants to make himself available to the team. The fact that he is under the nose of the Curve (the spy head, ed.) scored, made the evening perfect. On the other hand, we still have to learn how we can play with him and he can play with us.” According to Mourinho, that will take some time, but it is not there if we can believe him.

Of yellow and red had a difficult start to the competition. They drew at Salernitana and lost against Hellas Verona and AC Milan. The big win against Empoli will have been good for the wolves from Rome. Can Lukaku and co. continue the line on Thursday on the field of the Moldovan Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League?
