On the fifth matchday in the Premier League, Arsenal did not miss a beat when they visited Everton, with Amadou Onana in the starting line-up for the entire match. The vice champions kept it economical at Goodison Park on Sunday, thanks to substitute Leandro Trossard. The Red Devil scored the only goal of the match (0-1).

Arsenal seemed to break the spell after twenty minutes when Eddie Nketiah picked up a lost ball on the edge of offside. The brand new England international laid back to Fabio Vieira who sent a splitting pass to Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian shot in from the corner, but the VAR disallowed the goal due to Nketiah’s offside. To make matters worse, Martinelli suffered an injury during the action and was immediately called in for Leandro Trossard.

The Gunners had a lot of ball possession but also had a lot of difficulty with the stiff play of the Toffees. The break brought improvement, but the attempts of Nketiah and Oleksandr Zinchenko were blocked. Twenty minutes before the end, Trossard nicely completed yet another Arsenal combination. After a short corner from Martin Odegaard, the ball went via Bukayo Saka to the Red Devil, who shot the ball past Everton keeper Jordan Pickford via the inside of the post. Arsenal pushed forward, but both Odegaard and Fabio Vieira failed to deepen the scoring. Everton, on the other hand, could not make a fist and could not threaten the debuting David Raya enough.

With the victory, Mikel Arteta’s men continue to follow in the footsteps of Manchester City, which won at Conference League winner West Ham on Saturday, partly thanks to a first goal from Jérémy Doku for the Citizens (3-1). Man City still has the maximum points, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham follow two units.
