Bomb at the Red Devils: displeased Thibaut Courtois no longer shows up after captaincy issue

Notable absent yesterday at the Red Devils: Thibaut Courtois did not show up when the team gathered back in the hotel for the preparation for the international match against Estonia.

According to some teammates, the goalkeeper would have expressed himself negatively about the captaincy issue. In the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, it was agreed that Lukaku would be captain against Austria and Courtois against Estonia. But the honorable keeper didn’t like that. He felt he should wear the belt against Austria and not Romelu Lukaku.

The fact that Saturday was not even won, ensured that the flame ignited completely. Courtois was very sharp afterwards in the dressing room and had harsh words for some teammates. That was not so remarkable then because Courtois is often hard in the emotion after a match, but when he did not show up on Sunday evening, the teammates knew there was more to it. Courtois was also slightly injured. It will probably be the official version soon.

The question now is how national coach Domenico Tedesco will respond to this. He will give a press conference in Estonia tonight. As far as sports are concerned: Matz Sels will normally replace Courtois under the bar in Estonia on Tuesday. Koen Casteels is injured.

Captain De Bruyne will be back in September, no rotation then. But more importantly: how will the national coach Thibaut Courtois get back in his camp?
