Anderlecht said goodbye to Lior Refaelov (37) a month and a half ago. There is now a very real chance that the playmaker will return to Israel. The best offers he has are from Maccabi Haïfa and Maccabi Tel Aviv. The decision comes quickly.

Lior Refaelov has been playing football in Belgium since 2011, but after 13 years that seems to be coming to an end. The number 10 is transfer-free since he did not get a new contract with Anderlecht. Rafa spoke to several teams because he wants to play football for at least another two years, but the best offers now come from his home country. There, champion Maccabi Haifa – also his ex-club – pulls his sleeve, but the Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv also made an excellent proposal. Those Israeli clubs have also reported every time in recent years, but now it looks like Refaelov will bite. The player has to decide relatively quickly.

The former Golden Shoe who also played football at Club Brugge and Antwerp is certainly not extinguished yet. Last season he played in 45 matches at Anderlecht and was good for 6 goals and 7 assists. The season before he also reached double digits in terms of statistics

Son at Antwerp

Still, it’s a very difficult decision. Lior Refaelov and his wife Gal have just built a new house in Antwerp. Belgium has become their second homeland. Their children feel at home here and son Adrian Refaelov plays football with the youth of Antwerp where he is a talent. The intention was that Adrian would stay with The Great Old, but that remains to be seen. (jug)
