Domenico Tedesco has to miss some players in the European Championship qualifying matches against Austria (home) and Estonia (away). Not only the four who leave for the European Championship for U23, also some injured. For example, Leandro Trossard cannot be used. “He is undergoing surgery, but it is not football-related,” said the national coach.

Amadou Onana, as a defensive midfielder strong against Sweden and Germany, is also not there. The Everton midfielder, who barely maintained himself, is struggling with the groin. “A bitter pill to swallow”, Tedesco even said in Dutch. “He is an important player for us.”

Koen Casteels, who became the first substitute goalkeeper after Simon Mignolet dropped out, is also out of action. After a tough season with Wolfsburg, he suffers from overload.

Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku will face each other in the Champions League final on Saturday. Michy Batshuayi will play the Turkish Cup final with Fenerbahçe on Sunday evening. While the entire selection starts training on Monday, De Bruyne, Lukaku and Batschuayi will only join on Tuesday. (lvdw)
