Beach volleyball Geberit BK-Tour manche Antwerp
On a sun-drenched Zaha Hadidplein, in the shadow of the futuristic Havenhuis in the middle of the “old” Antwerp harbour, the duo Els Vandesteene – Britt Ruysschaert, once again took the (final) victory. The top duo of the Sint-Niklaas Sini beach team thus won its fourth round in this Geberit Tour. The men’s victory went to Christophe Witvrouwen – Joppe Van Langendonck. Spicy detail: Christophe Witvrouwen is Britt Ruysschaert’s boyfriend. It was his first win ever.

After the first loss of the final of the season, last week in Ghent, Ruysschaert – Vandesteene has settled. On Saturday, the Sini beach duo left nothing to chance. Emma and Ilya Van Doren, in their first match, and Stefanie Van Den Broeck – Lyn Pauwels could never make a fist in the group matches. In the quarter finals, Bente Daniëls – Lana Mees quickly got down on their knees. On Sunday it was more work for Ruyssschaert – Vandesteene. Hannelore Pass – Océane Reul forced them into a three-setter. Nevertheless, the Sini beach duo qualified for the final. In it they again met Lisa Van den Vonder – Louka Maertens. The Wase Sini beach duo won the first set, saw the runners-up come next to them, to take distance again more easily in the belle.
“After winning the first three motos, we had to fold for Lisa Van den Vonder – Louka Maertens in Ghent last week. This duo is pretty much the future of beach volleyball in our country,” says Els Vandesteene.
“Last week they came back from the Nations Cup with a lot of luggage. We already beat them in Haacht and Hechtel Eksel, but in Ghent they were the better ones” admits Britt Ruysschaert. “After Monday’s defeat in Ghent, we have slightly adjusted our game this week. With success, as it turned out.”
“This round here in Antwerp was certainly a special race for me. If Ghent was a home match for Els Vandesteene, this time the organization was in the hands of my indoor volleyball club. That does something to a person, because everyone, trainers, many supporters and family were here. Moreover, we had two very good days with our Sini beach crew. Here between the docks there was quite a bit of wind so that there was a coastal feeling. It was once something different than the City Manches that we have known in recent weeks. Here the lake tended towards true coastal beach volleyball. This was a very nice location in that respect.”
Together on stage
Among the men, Britt Ruysschaert also saw her friend Christophe Witvrouwen win the Antwerp round with Joppe Van Langendonck. “It is their first victory in the Geberit Tour, so it is also a first that we will be on the highest step of the podium together.”
“However, we can again confidently look forward to the round in Ypres. Afterwards there is a break of three weeks to recharge the batteries.”
