The home team never really got into trouble and could afford to see star player Nikola Jokic score his first points only three seconds from the end of the first quarter. Still, Jokic would eventually end the game with a triple-double: 27 points, 10 rebounds and fourteen assists. “The most important thing is that we won,” said the Serbian center after the game. “I did my job, just like everyone else in the team.”

And he was right, as Jokic also featured Jamal Murray (26 points), Aaron Gordon (16) and Michael Porter Jr. (14) often in the right place.
Disillusionment prevailed at the Heat. It was only the first time since the start of the playoffs that they lost the first game. Star player Jimmy Butler in particular fell short with 13 points. With six out of fourteen successful attempts, he played one of his fewest games of the current season. Teammate Bam Adebayo suffered less from title stress. He scored 26 points, but that was not enough to put the heat on the home team.
The Nuggets, in search of their first title, host again in game two on Sunday. The first team to win four matches is crowned champion.
