“Sergio Rico has been released from intensive care,” the Virgen del Rocio hospital said in a statement. The goalkeeper can now move to another floor of the hospital, where he will “remain under surveillance and receive nursing care”. Last week it became known that Rico was conscious and could communicate.

Rico, 29, was admitted to Seville’s Virgen del Rocio Hospital on May 28 after falling from a horse while on a pilgrimage in Andalusia. He suffered a serious brain injury. He was kept in an induced coma at the hospital.

The Spaniard, who played one international match, is reserve keeper at PSG behind the Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma. He has received a lot of support from the football world in recent weeks. The crowd at the Parc des Princes in Paris chanted his name at the beginning of June after the last game of the season, against Clermont.
