Elise Mertens meets ‘lucky loser’ Viktoria Hruncakova in first round Roland Garros


Elise Mertens (WTA 28) is paired in the first round of Roland Garros with the Slovak Viktoria Hruncakova (WTA 136). He was fished out as a “lucky loser” for the main draw on Friday.


The 27-year-old Mertens has already played against the 25-year-old Hruncakova twice and won both meetings smoothly, in 2020 in Hobart (6-1, 6-0) and in 2018 at the Australian Open (6-2, 6-1) .

In addition to Mertens, Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA 81) and Maryna Zanevska (WTA 88) are also on the women’s table. They meet respectively the Russian Anna Blinkova (WTA 66) and the Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (WTA 61).

David Goffin (ATP 113) is the only Belgian man at the Porte d’Auteuil. He will compete against the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 13).
