David Goffin (ATP 113) has to compete in the first round of Roland Garros against the Pool Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 13), the thirteenth seed. This turned out to be the draw for the second grand slam tournament of the season on Thursday.

The 32-year-old Goffin is the only Belgian man on the main draw in Paris. He already played twice against 26-year-old Hurkacz. Last year they also met on the clay court of Roland Garros. The Pole then won in the third round 7-5, 6-2 and 6-1. He then went out against the later Norwegian finalist Casper Ruud. Also in 2022, Goffin won on the clay court in Rome 7-6 (10/8) and 7-6 (7/2) against Hurkacz.
The winner will play in the second round against the Dutchman Tallon Fransespoor (ATP 39) or a qualifier.
The Spanish top seed Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 1) opens against a player from the qualifications. He can collide with Serbian Novak Djokovic (ATP 3) in the semifinals, who is chasing a 23rd grand slam title. The Russian Daniil Medvedev (ATP 2) is in the other table half. Fourteen-time winner Rafael Nadal (ATP 15) withdrew injured and is therefore absent from the Porte d’Auteuil for the first time since his winning debut in 2005.

Elise Mertens (WTA 28), the 28th seed, will start the tournament against a qualifier and will meet American Caty Mcnally (WTA 54) or Romanian Ana Bogdan (WTA 60) if she wins. The Limburger made it to the fourth round (eighth finals) last year, just like in 2018.
Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA 81) meets the Russian Anna Blinkova (WTA 66), whom she has already lost twice in three matches. After that, the Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia (WTA 5) may be waiting.
Maryna Zanevska (WTA 88) will take to the track for the first time against the Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (WTA 61) and can look forward to a duel with the Chinese Qinwen Zheng (WTA 19).
Greet Minnen (WTA 119) can become the fourth Belgian woman in the main draw if she beats Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (WTA 144) in her last qualifying match on Thursday.
The Polish Iga Swiatek defends her title in Paris. The number 1 in the world plays its opening match against the Spanish Cristina Bucsa (WTA 67).
Roland Garros starts Sunday (May 28) and ends two weeks later (June 11).
