Marouane Fellaini (36) is giving himself a month to think about the further course of his career as a professional footballer, he admitted on Friday during a press moment at second division Francs Borains, the club where he is an investor.
“I can still play for one or two more years,” said the former Red Devil, who does not rule out a final farewell at the age of 36. “That is also somewhere in my mind. Currently I am enjoying the time I can spend with family. I take the time to look at the various offers, from Belgium and abroad, to finally choose the right project.”
Our compatriot has been without a club for several weeks, after deciding to prematurely terminate his one-year contract with Shandong Taishan after a five-season Chinese adventure. Big Fella left Manchester United in the spring of 2019 for an adventure in the Super League. He had gotten sidetracked at Old Trafford at the time. With Shandong, Fellaini was crowned Chinese champion in 2021. That same year he also won the Chinese Cup, just like in 2020 and in 2023.
Fellaini won the Europa League (2017), FA Cup (2016) and League Cup (2016) with Manchester United. Before his time at ManU, Fellaini defended the colors of Standard (2006-08) and Everton (2008-13). With the Rouches he won a Belgian title (2008).
In the meantime, there are rumors about his future. “If it’s written somewhere, it’s always true,” Fellaini said with a wink. “I train to stay in shape and look at all the offers, whether it is Turkey, Europe or the Middle East. I do miss the game, but I’m certainly not in a rush.”
