Carrasco scores, but Atlético hands over 0-3 bonus against relegation candidate Espanyol

Atletico Madrid drew 3-3 in La Liga on matchday 36 on Wednesday evening on the field of relegation candidate Espanyol. However, the troops of trainer Diego Simeone had led 0-3.

Paul Niguez (21′) and Antoine Griezmann (44′) made it 0-2 at halftime. Immediately after the break, Yannick Carrasco further extended the lead with his seventh league goal. Cesar Montes (65′) gave Espanyol some hope again and after hits from Joselu (76′) on penalty and substitute Vinicius de Souza Costa (79′) it was actually tied again.

Axel Witsel played the entire game, Carrasco was replaced shortly before the end.

In the standings, Atletico remains third with 73 points behind city rivals Real Madrid, which won 2-1 against Rayo Vallecano earlier in the evening. Champion Barcelona has twelve points more than Atletico. For Espanyol (35 points), despite the great comeback as nineteenth and penultimate, it will be difficult to avoid relegation. With two match days to go, the gap with the safe seventeenth place is three points.
