Not good for the wallet: French tennis talent Hugo Gaston is stubborn and gets a huge fine after unsportsmanlike action

It will be eating sandwiches with chocolate for tennis player Hugo Gaston. The French number 108 in the world has been fined no less than 133,000 euros.

The 22-year-old Gaston has been known as a great talent for a while, but sometimes makes a name for himself with his turbulent character. This was recently the case again during the top tournament in Madrid. Gaston received a wild card from the organization, won his first match and then faced 17th seed Borna Coric.

During that match, the Frenchman showed his worst side. Just before a smash by his Croatian opponent – at the end of the first set – Gaston dropped a ball from his pocket, hoping to replay the point.

The ATP could not laugh at the incident and rated the phase as ‘anti-tennis’. Gaston was also previously punished for similar offenses and so his fine was doubled to 144,000 dollars (133,000 euros). A serious line through the account for a tennis player who was allowed to credit $ 117,631 in prize money to his bank this year.

Gaston himself has not yet responded to the facts or his sentence. The Frenchman is quietly preparing for Roland Garros, the second grand slam tournament of the year. There he will make his debut and immediately be 69,000 euros richer, even if he loses in the first round.
