Morocco plans to construct world’s biggest football stadium for 115,000 fans, aiming to host 2030 World Cup final

A stadium with a cost of 456 million euros and 115,000 seats: that is Morocco's plan for the Football World Cup in 2030. This could easily make the African country the owner of the largest stadium in the world.

The construction location is planned in El Mansouria, a coastal city near Casablanca. The architectural masterpiece will be called 'Grand Stade de Casablanca' and will be built by the American company Populous. They were previously responsible for the design of the ultra-modern 'Tottenham Hotspur Stadium'. With a capacity for 115,000 supporters, the stadium will also break a world record. That title is currently held by the 'Rungrado 1st of May Stadium' in North Korea with 114,000 seats. The construction would cost around 456 million euros.

Christopher Lee, the Managing Director of Populous, provided a brief response to the performance. “We are very proud to have been awarded this prestigious project. The 'Grand Stade de Casablanca' will become an iconic attraction for all residents of Casablanca and Morocco.” A striking statement, because only 20,000 people live in small El Mansouria.

WK 2030

Such a masterpiece is of course not simply planted in Morocco. The North African country will organize the Football World Cup in 2030, together with Spain and Portugal. The group stages are partly completed in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The aim is for the World Cup final to take place in the brand new arena on July 21, 2030. To ensure that the stadium is ready by then, the provisional deadline has been set to 2028. After the World Cup it will have to accommodate both Raja and Wydad Casablanca.
