Kortrijk

Union – KV Kortrijk was a match between the first and last in the standings. The competition leader had little trouble with the bottom line and won convincingly 3-0. The law of the strongest was once again confirmed. “This is a learning moment for us,” said Kortrijk coach Glen De Boeck.

No Kortrijk stunt in the Dudenpark on Sunday evening. Kevin Rodriguez gave the Brussels team a double lead at the end of the first half. Bad luck for KVK, because the visitors participated well.

“I think we played a good first half, or 40 minutes anyway,” KVK coach Glen De Boeck said after the match. “We had possession of the ball and the players stuck to the game system I had in mind. The moment my team started to deviate from the game system, the home players came into the match and were able to score as well. A consequence of the fact that we have a fairly young team with little experience. We lost the match in three minutes. Then as a trainer you come into the locker room and have to tell them that they have to learn from such moments. This competition was a great learning experience for my team. I can’t blame my boys. Union is simply good and has the best team in Belgium. You saw a clear difference between their match in the Europa League and against us.”

Rotation in starting eleven

Due to Malinov’s suspension, De Boeck was forced to rotate in his starting eleven. Henen and Mehssatou were given a place in the Kortrijk midfield. “I have to make choices with the material I have,” said the Kortrijk trainer. “I think Mehssatou played a very good match. I chose the solution that I thought I could play with best. However, Union has so much quality that we were unable to compete with it in certain areas. It’s a shame that we concede two goals so quickly, but it’s not easy to make the play and get a result against clubs from the left column. Like I said, it was a good learning moment for my young team.”
