Knack Roeselare is champion of Belgium for the third year in a row. In the play-offs, Roeselare proved too strong for Maaseik, who needed a miracle on Friday evening to keep Knack from winning the title. Something that did not happen, because Knack finished it off in front of his own audience in the third final match with a dry 3-0 (32-30, 25-21, 25-14). It is already the fourteenth national title in the history of the club.

The first two duels both went to the West Flemings last week. After they had won the first final match in their own hall with 3-1, they also turned out to be 1-3 too strong in the Steengoed Arena in Limburg on Tuesday.

Roeselare was the best team after the regular competition in the Lotto Volley League and also finished the Champion Play-offs as the leader. For the men of coach Steven Vanmedegael it is the second trophy of the season. In February they beat Menen 3-0 in the Belgian Cup final.

At the beginning of April, Roeselare grabbed next to a second overall victory in the CEV Cup, the second cup in European men’s volleyball. In their own Tomabelhal, the West Flemings lost the golden set 9-15 against the Italian top club Modena in the second leg of the final. The match itself had ended 0-3 in favor of the Italians, after Roeselare had gone on to win in Modena with the same numbers a week earlier.

The West Flemings previously became national champions in 1989, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022. Last year, Knack defeated Menen in the title final. Maaseik is still the record champion with sixteen national titles. The last time the championship was not won by Roeselare or Maaseik was in 1994, when the then top club Zellik became champion for the third time in a row. (belga)
