David Goffin and Elise Mertens will compete for Belgium in Nice, France, in mid-July in the renewed Hopman Cup, a tournament for mixed national teams. The organization confirms this on Tuesday.

The Hopman Cup is back on the calendar this year for the first time since 2019. All previous editions, since the start in 1989, took place in Perth, Australia. For years, the tournament was the opening of the tennis season and the ‘warm-up’ for the Australian Open. Belgium was once a losing finalist. In 2011, Justine Henin and Ruben Bemelmans lost to the American duo Bethanie Mattek-Sands and John Isner.

At the end of last year it was announced that the Hopman Cup would return to the calendar in the summer of 2023, with Nice as the new location. The format remains the same: men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles. Between 19 and 23 July, six countries will take part on the clay court in Nice, with Belgium also including France (Richard Gasquet and Alizé Cornet), Spain (Carlos Alcaraz and Paula Badosa), Switzerland (Leandro Riedo and Belinda Bencic), Denmark (Holger Rune and Clara Tauson) and Croatia (Borna Coric and Donna Vekic). The numbers 1 from each group play the final.
