The 19-year-old Alcaraz won the Indian Wells tournament earlier this month. He then defeated Medvedev in the final. Due to the defeat in Miami, he can draw a line over his ambition to put the Sunshine Double, winning the tournaments of Indian Wells and Miami, on his honors list. The last player to succeed was Roger Federer in 2017. He also loses his first place in the world ranking. The Serbian Novak Djokovic is back on top on Monday when the new ranking is published.

Daniil Medvedev was the first to qualify for the final in Miami earlier on Friday. The fourth seed beat fourteenth seed Karen Khachanov (ATP 16) in a Russian chat in the semifinals in three sets: 7-6 (7/5), 3-6 and 6-3.

The 27-year-old Medvedev is aiming for a nineteenth ATP title. He already performed strongly this year and pocketed the overall victory in Dubai, Doha and Rotterdam.
