He was once ‘the new Kompany’ and moved to City, but Mathias Bossaerts (27) got tired of football and now coaches young talents from Antwerp

He was once a great Belgian promise. From captain of the youth teams of Anderlecht and Manchester City to the appointed successor of Vincent Kompany at the Red Devils. The bar was set high for Mathias Bossaerts, but at the age of 25 the Antwerp native finally drew a line under his career as a footballer. Nowadays, as a 27-year-old, he coaches the emerging talents (U13 to U18) of the Bosuil. “It is my job to introduce young players to setbacks at an early age.”
