Tottenham defender Emerson Royal has to go under the knife. The Brazilian international suffered a knee injury last Saturday in the lost friendly match against Morocco (2-1).

Emerson is expected to be out for at least six weeks. Tottenham confirmed this on its website.

Emerson’s retirement is a setback for Cristian Stellini, who was promoted to head coach last Sunday following the sacking of Antonio Conte. In addition to Emerson, Richarlison, Ryan Sessegnon, Ben Davies and Hugo Lloris also suffer from injuries.

Richarlison will certainly miss the league game against his ex-club Everton. Monday’s match against the Toffees is also too early for Sessegnon. Ben Davies is still out until the beginning of May. Things look rosy for captain Hugo Lloris. The French goalkeeper played in a practice match against Ipswich last week and would therefore be fit in time for the game at Goodison Park.
