Gilles-Arnaud Bailly (ATP 974) was unable to surprise on Tuesday in the first round of the Challenger tournament in Girona, Spain. He lost in the €73,000 clay court event after a creditable match in three sets against Argentina’s first seed Pedro Cachin (ATP 63).

After two hours and 23 minutes, the 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3 final score was on the board.
Seventeen-year-old Bailly came to Girona, where he received a wild card from the organization, with a first ITF title in the bag. Last weekend, the Limburger won the $ 15,000 clay tournament in Antalya, Turkey, good for his first victory in the professional circuit.
Bailly is a former world junior number one. He lost the grand slam finals of Roland Garros and the US Open last year and was allowed to make his senior debut in October at the Antwerp ATP tournament, where he offered strong resistance against David Goffin in the first round. This season, a year earlier than expected, he will step up to the senior ranks.
