No changes at the top of the leaderboard in 1B. After SK Beveren’s victory on Friday evening, RWDM had no problem with RSCA Futures on Saturday evening. The leader was 0-4 too strong for the Purple & White youngsters. Thanks to Kylian Hazard, who is in the playoffs for now on fire is. After a goal and two assists against Lierse Kempenzonen, an assist in Beveren and an assist against Club NXT, another goal and an assist followed in Lotto Park.

“Since the start of the play-offs, I have been decisive for the team every week,” said a proud Hazard after the match in Lotto Park. “Of course I hope to continue that, especially because it also earns points.”

Hazard says he has undergone a metamorphosis. “I would not immediately say that these figures provide a liberation. But by going for it so firmly, something has certainly changed in me. I now enjoy doing things that I used to not enjoy doing, such as at training or elsewhere. It helps me to progress. I hope to be able to continue in this way to give something back to everyone who has always stood by me.”

Something to definitely write down in that context: RWDM’s 0-2 in the 48th minute. RSCA Futures was close to 1-1 at the time. Camara kicked a short corner from Bellman into the box, but none of the Purple & White threesome Lapage-Lissens-Leoni got the ball past goalkeeper Defourny. When Biron sent Leoni’s attempt blocked by Heris deep, Hazard finished masterfully after a long run. A key moment in the game. “I always knew I had that speed in me, but maybe I didn’t always use it well. The fact that we regularly look back at video footage of previous competitions with the technical staff helps me in my development.”

For his opponents on Saturday night, who may not have deserved a heavy 0-4 defeat based on their performance, Hazard had a pat on the back. “Being future greats”, Hazard referred with a wink to the name of Anderlecht’s U23 team. “But that implies that they sometimes make some mistakes, which we can then make full use of.”
Hazard admits frankly that not only promising teams make mistakes. The defeat in Beveren was an eye-opener for RWDM. “In Beveren we saw the other side of the coin. After that 1-0 lead at half-time, we may have already thought we had won. Suddenly it went from being virtually nine points ahead of Beveren to only three points… Oh well, we are now trying to continue on this momentum. The pressure is certainly not on us. We are ahead of Beveren, and we will hold onto that lead until the end.”
