Rennes coach “surprised” about calling up Jérémy Doku for the Red Devils, who is recovering: “I asked if he can come back”

Jérémy Doku is part of the 24-man selection of the Red Devils, but the chances are very small that we will see him at work against Sweden or Germany. The 20-year-old winger is still recovering from an injury and his coach at Stade Rennes would like him to receive care at the club.

The name of Jérémy Doku came as a surprise last Friday in the first selection of national coach Domenico Tedesco. On March 5, Doku injured his hamstrings and has been missing from the Stade Rennes squad ever since. “I called him on Thursday, since Monday he has been training individually again,” Tedesco said at his press conference about the lightning-fast wing attacker. “Next Monday we will do a screening with the federal doctor Kristof.”

Meanwhile, Bruno Génésio, the coach of Stade Rennes, confirmed that Doku is not fit for Sunday evening’s match against Paris Saint-Germain. “I am surprised that he has been selected for the national team,” said Génésio. “Maybe it’s because the national coach wants to chat with him. I have asked the club to do what is necessary so that he can come back to us for treatment.”

So it seems that Doku will report to the Devils in Tubize on Monday and then return to Rennes. “If he is not fit, we will call for a replacement,” Tedesco also said. The national coach did not reveal who it will be, but Mike Trésor of KRC Genk seems to have a great chance.
