KV Kortrijk makes a final attempt at preservation. It put Club Brugge over the knee in-house – quite unexpectedly. Where the away team missed the chances, Kadri took advantage to score the only goal of the afternoon. “We don’t feel saved yet.”

Rik De Mil went to the Guldenspoorstadion with confidence. Last week he won his first match as a brand new T1 from Club Brugge against Standard. However, KV Kortrijk did not take into account this good feeling among the people of Bruges. Kadri scored, directed and dribbled away. Partly thanks to the Algerian, KVK won at home against the national champion.

“It really wasn’t normal today,” goalkeeper Vandenberghe said after the game. “He is by far the best player I have ever played with. If you sometimes see him busy in training, together with Selemani, you think that he can take that step higher anyway. That boy is still only 22 years old. He deserves a nice transfer. Other than that I didn’t have to do much other than that leg sweep on a shot from Buchanan. I have to say that for the first time I really had goosebumps in my goal. What an atmosphere here. Our fans have done their best.”

Valuable victory

After the match, there was a party in the dressing room of KV Kortrijk. The mood is positive, but the feeling about the rescue is still the same as before the match. “It’s a very important victory anyway, but we don’t feel like we’re saved yet,” said Dion De Neve. “We also have to look at our competitors. Winning today was a good thing and let’s hope we keep getting points. We just have to keep doing that. For me personally it is extra gratifying to win against Club, because I used to be a fan of theirs. My whole family is still a fan of blue and black.”

“It was a necessary victory”, said T1 Bernd Storck at the press conference after the match. “I admit that we were a bit lucky today, but it was about time that luck was on our side. We were good at Westerlo and I was satisfied afterwards. Unfortunately we didn’t take advantage of some opportunities there and Westerlo did. We’re certainly not sure about conservation yet. It is still a long way, but this victory is good. I give my players a few days of rest so that we can start the duel with Cercle Brugge in two weeks with a fresh cup.”
