A three-pointer on the buzzer of star Maxi Kleber helped the Dallas Mavericks to a narrow 110-111 victory against the Los Angeles Lakers in the North American professional basketball league NBA on Friday. Joel Embiid led the Sixers to a seventh straight win.

Kyrie Irving had 38 points, six rebounds and six assists for Dallas. With the Lakers, who seemed to miss LeBron James (only), Anthony Davis came to 26 points. The Lakers are ranked tenth in the west, the last to qualify for the jump-off, but are feeling the hot breath of number eleven Utah. New Orleans in twelfth place dropped expensive points at basement team Houston (114-112).

The Mavs move into sixth place, at the expense of Golden State (7th), which lost 127-119 in Atlanta, where Trae Young was the Hawks’ leading scorer (25 points).

In the East, Joel Embiid scored 38 points (plus 13 rebounds) for Philadelphia, largely contributing to the 82-121 win against Charlotte. In the standings, the Sixers (3rd) trail runner-up Boston, who defeated Portland (126-112), mainly thanks to Jayson Tatum (34 points) and Jaylen Brown (27 points). For Portland, Damian Lillard’s 41 points were not enough. The Chicago Bulls also won again after a spectacular piece and double overtime against Minnesota Timberwolves (139-131).
