Union will close the group stage of the Europa League in Lotto Park on Thursday evening with a match against European superpower Liverpool, which is already certain of final victory in group E. The people of Brussels need a win to still have a chance of second place, but Don’t expect any gifts from The Reds. Although Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp left his biggest stars behind in Liverpool, he does not intend to make it a quiet evening in Brussels.

“In the Champions League, our last group matches were often still important. That is different now, but that does not mean that we will not play hard,” said the German coach, who did not include attacker Mo Salah, defenders Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, and goalkeeper Alisson in his match selection. “I’m lucky that I have a big core. There is still a good mix of experience and youth players.”

“Union left a good impression in the first leg. They have a lot of good players, unfortunately. Every year they have lost important players, but have always managed to replace them. That’s impressive. Union is also doing great in the competition and is the deserved leader,” Klopp praised his opponent.

Finally, Klopp responded to the statements of Union coach Alexander Blessin, who said during his press chat that he enjoyed the meeting with his compatriot during the first leg. “I like to have a beer with him after the match, that’s a tradition in Germany. Although I can’t miss the plane to Liverpool. We have played against each other in the past, but I can assure you that neither of us left a great impression,” he laughed.
