Red Devil Roméo Lavia resumes training at Chelsea after months of injuries and “can’t wait to make his debut”

After a months-long absence due to an ankle injury, Roméo Lavia has rejoined the group for training at Chelsea this week, coach Mauricio Pochettino confirmed during his press conference on Friday. A match selection for Sunday afternoon’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, on matchday eighteen in the Premier League, is even a possibility.

Nineteen-year-old Lavia was diagnosed with cancer last summer Blues acquired for just over sixty million euros from Southampton, relegated to the second division. However, the midfielder was not fully fit when he started training in Cobham and subsequently twisted his ankle in September. This means that our compatriot, a potential Red Devil with a view to next year’s European Championship, did not even play for a minute for the Londoners.

“Like Christopher Nkunku, Lavia was not ready to compete when he arrived. Now we are almost six months later and a selection against Wolves is a possibility. He can’t wait to make his debut for us. He is doing well in training, but still needs time to get to his best form,” said Pochettino.

Chelsea can use him

After a disastrous start to the season, Chelsea is only tenth in the Premier League and the club cannot afford to lose points. There are therefore not many options to gradually introduce the recovered players. “Guys like Nkunku and Lavia need to understand that they have to work hard every day. Even harder than the other players, because they have to be able to have an immediate impact once they are brought onto the field. They need minutes to grow, but everyone has to understand that we have to win games. We are not in the season preparation.”
