FC Barcelona has taken drastic security measures for the arrival of Antwerp. For example, visiting fans in the city center are urged not to express their support for Antwerp too conspicuously and identity checks can take place at the stadium at any time tonight. Barça does not want any Belgian fans in the home sections for this risky match, that much is clear.

Barça writes in a statement on its own club website that all Antwerp fans without a match ticket are not welcome near the Olympic Stadium tonight. After all, there are no longer tickets available for the visitors section. Only fans with a ticket are welcome in the relevant ‘away zone’. In addition, the club is taking some other measures. For example, users with a Belgian IP address or a Belgian bank card cannot buy tickets for the home sections. You may be asked for your ID at any time near the stadium and only Barça fans are welcome. The club also writes that shirts, flags and other items that can refer to Antwerp may only be worn or displayed in the ‘away zone’ of the stadium.

In the city center, Antwerp fans are urged by the massive police presence to behave as quietly and inconspicuously as possible. Barcelona labels the home match against Antwerp as a high-risk match. Last year, the home sections of the Barcelona stadium were occupied by supporters of Eintracht Frankfurt. The club now absolutely wants to avoid that. Antwerp received 2,600 places in the visitors’ section. They sold out in just ten minutes.
