Zizou Bergs (ATP 122) qualified for the semi-finals of the Challenger tournament in Lugano, Switzerland (hard/74,825 euros) on Friday.
Bergs, the top seed in Switzerland, defeated Kazakh fifth seed Mikhail Kukushkin (ATP 140) in straight sets: 6-3 and 6-4 in the quarter-finals. The match lasted 1 hour and 16 minutes. Kukushkin had a particularly strong month of February and won the Challenger tournaments of Manama and Tenerife consecutively.
In the next round, the 24-year-old Limburger will be faced by German Daniel Masur (ATP 379), who defeated Moldovan third seed Radu Albot (ATP 152) in the quarter-finals.
Alexander Blockx (ATP 307) also saw action in Lugano. He lost his match in the eighth finals on Wednesday evening against the Dutchman Gijs Brouwer (ATP 211) in two sets (6-3 and 6-1). Joris De Loore (ATP 188) ultimately forfeited the tournament.
