The Belgian Football Association is launching a campaign to rekindle the fan experience around the national team. Open training sessions, a big tifo for the qualifying match in Sweden, a bus column for the party in Germany… and all that under the motto “Wir doen das”, a nod to the origins of new national coach Domenico Tedesco, the 2024 European Championship in Germany and our third national language.

The Red Devils will start a new chapter later this month. On March 24, they will play their first qualifying match for next year’s European Championship in Germany in Sweden. They will do that without some prominent members of the Golden Generation: earlier this week, after Eden Hazard, Toby Alderweireld also said goodbye to the national team. And with a new coach: Domenico Tedesco has taken over the role from Roberto Martinez.

“With a new coach and a new sporting leadership, a new era is dawning for us at the Red Devils,” said Manu Leroy, Director of Marketing and Communication of the RBFA, in a press release from the football association. “We believe in our own strength, but we also know that we will need our supporters more than ever to qualify for EURO 2024.”

Open training sessions, tifo and bus column

The intention is to involve fans more closely with the Red Devils, both physically and digitally. There will be open training sessions again in Tubize, but ‘fan conferences’ will also be organized where supporters can meet and get to know the younger players and ask their own questions.

For the European Championship qualifier in Sweden, the plan is to unroll a tifo with as many fan names as possible. “In this way, the Red Devils are not only supported by the fans who have traveled to Stockholm, but also by the fans at home.” (Those who want to add their name to the tifo can do so via this link doing.)

The football association has also provided a special plan for the exhibition match against Germany that will take place a few days later in Cologne: the Red Devils Express 2.0. All buses of supporters association 1895 will gather in advance in Eupen, where a party will be organized from 3 pm. Between 17:00 and 17:30, the buses will drive in convoy to the RheinEnergieStadion. It is only valid for members of supporters club 1895.

“Wir schaap das” (translation: we can do this) refers to a statement by former German chancellor Angela Merkel in 2015 when it was feared that Germany would not be able to cope with the influx of refugees. With “Give everything” and “On val le faire”, the campaign also has branches into other national languages.
