Manchester City, without the injured Kevin De Bruyne, has knocked Newcastle United out of the FA Cup. Jérémy Doku was between the lines for a total of 77 minutes, but did not play a leading role. That was reserved for Bernardo Silva, who crowned himself the match winner with two goals.

In is in, Silva must have thought after his 'brace' against Newcastle. The Portuguese, difficult to say whether he is actually a winger or attacking midfielder, single-handedly decided the match with two goals, which he does not necessarily have to be proud of. But hey, who cares about that? Certainly not Pep Guardiola, because defending champion City will soon be in the semi-finals of the oldest cup competition in the world.

After thirteen minutes it was a first prize for Silva. The Portuguese dribbled into the penalty area and saw his (weak) attempt blocked. However, the ball caprioled into the air and goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka could only watch as the ball landed behind him and out of his reach. 1-0.

Silva's second was not much nicer. The number 20 of the Citizens cut to his left in the box and curled the ball towards the far corner. Once again his shot would be too weak to worry the Newcastle goalie, but that was beyond Sven Botman's calculations. The defender touched the ball with his head and made his goalkeeper sigh in frustration for the second time of the evening.

Second division Coventry City surprisingly qualified earlier in the day at the expense of Wolverhampton, and tomorrow/Sunday we will know the other two semi-finalists. Chelsea host Leicester City, who lead the Championship, are set for a return to the Premier League, while Manchester United take on arch-rivals Liverpool.
